The controversial game Plantation Simulator has been removed from Steam following backlash over its depiction of slavery and racist imagery. The game got criticism after showed enslaved Black characters working on plantations, with mechanics involving punishment and forced labor. The developer requested the game’s removal after days of public criticism and media coverage. Steam later delisted it. 「Hello friends, lol. We’ve decided to retire this game! We’ve [sic] think we have said what needed to be said. We saw the opportunities and took them. We are reaching out to Steam to take this game off the store page!! We do not know when they’ll be able to address the request, but we hope it is soon!」
遊戲上線初期幾乎無人關注，直到5月20日前後才因種族歧視內容引發熱議。面對批評，開發者迅速更新版本：首先將所有黑人勞工角色替換為白人，隨後又將鞭打動畫改為愛心特效，給角色穿上泳裝，並將成人描述修改為「你的朋友們穿著泳裝，你可以給他們親親」。
這一系列操作引發了大量玩家的不滿。外媒Kotaku也發文痛批Valve（V社）不作為，指出其內容審核一貫寬鬆且不穩定，而本作明顯違反了平台關於仇恨言論的規定。
在持續多日的輿論壓力和媒體報道之後，開發者主動申請下架遊戲，並發表聲明稱：「哈哈，我們決定下架！我們認為想說的已經說了。我們看到了機會，也抓住了機會。」最終，Steam將該遊戲移除。這款因描繪奴隸制和種族主義意象而備受譴責的遊戲，至此被徹底下架。
